P & C News
The 'Crazy Hair' themed disco that we ran with the Student Council last term was a great success on all levels. The students had a fantastic time dancing, playing games and winning prizes!
Thank you to the student council for a fantastic job decorating the room and making posters to promote the night, and a big thank you to all our volunteers who gave up their time to help out on the night.
Helping Create and Maintain a Safe School
Last E Newsletter I highlighted our school communities approach to incidents of student bullying at school. This would be one of the most commonly asked questions from parents during our regular Monday morning school tours.
In light of recent media interest in schools responses to students sexualized behaviour I have included details of Coomera Springs State School protocols.
National Congress for Grandparents and
Kin Carers
Did you know that there are over 25,000 non-parental custodians nationally?
On the 5th and 6th of November 2009 it is planned to bring together some of these families and their support services to discuss those issues that make these families unique.
Year 7 Child Safety Handbook
Queensland Police Legacy provide free to all Year 7 students in Queensland a “Child Safety Handbook: An Awareness Guide for Children and Parents”. The handbook is supported by the Queensland Government and Queensland Police.
Student Free Day - Date Disclaimer
Monday 19th October is the student free day this term. Please ensure you are aware and make alternative arrangements for your children on this day.
In Catchment Enrolments for Yr 1-7, 2010
Applications are now open for all year levels for 2010. Please supply all paperwork (application, enrolment agreements, proof of residency – 2 forms, and birth certificate) for all enrolling students.
In Catchment Enrolments for Prep 2010
Prep for 2010 is filling fast. Please ensure your fully completed paperwork (application, enrolment agreements, proof of residency – 2 forms, and birth certificate) is submitted as soon as possible.
Students eligible for the Prep year in 2010 MUST be born between July 2004 and June 2005 ONLY.
Prep 2010 Birth Certificates
Parents of children born between 1 July 2004 and 30 June 2005 who are starting Prep in 2010 will need a birth certificate to enrol them in the Prep Year.
The Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages is encouraging parents to apply for birth certificates now to avoid the new school year rush.
Congratulations
Our first Coomera Springs Idol was a huge success. Thanks to all the students who entered, and to all finalists.
Two of our students recently competed in the State Titles for Speed Skating. The boys did brilliantly.
Mums off Bums
Come and get fit and have fun at: MUMS OFF BUMS provided by Mad Sports. This high energy class is designed to get mums fit and healthy and to improve young children’s coordination and social skills using a large range of fun sporting equipment.
NAB AFL Auskick
AusKick is again coming to Coomera Springs. If you wish to enrol your child please see the attached enrolment details.
Personal Safety and Protective Behaviours
National Child Protection Week provides an opportunity for adults to reinforce key messages about protective behaviours (feeling, acting and being safe) in an age-appropriate way with all children.
Keeping Kids Safe Online
At any time kids are busy planning their activities – emailing friends, instant messaging, downloading information from the internet or updating their MySpace profiles.
It’s important as parents and carers, that you guide your children in making smart choices about who they speak to and what they access online.
Swine Flu
As you may be aware, a national program to vaccinate Australians to protect against Pandemic (H1N1) 2009 Influenza Virus, (Human Swine Flu) commenced on 30 September 2009.
The initial phase of the vaccination program is aimed at protecting people who are most vulnerable to severe complications from infection with the pandemic influenza virus.

The students had a great time and learnt lots of Science in a fun way.
Lifeline Kids in Group
A group for 6 to 9 year olds who have experienced grief and loss, abuse & other life challenges. For more information Click Here.
Parent Course for Gifted Children
Your Gifted Child: A weekend information course will be held 17/18 October 2009 in Brisbane.
The course will be led by GERRIC’s director, Professor Miraca Gross, an internationally recognised authority on the education of gifted and talented children and adolescents.
Coomera Scout Group
Do you like making new friends, camping, adventurous activities (like abseiling), and just being in the outdoors then come and visit the Coomera Scout den!

The UK's top Martial Arts School is opening in Oxenford at the Oxenford Youth Centre. They are running a number of different classes for all ages.
